- Blog tour review - Blood in the Valley by J.K. Hogan
*The information about that book and a copy were provided by Reading Addiction Blog Tours for this tour and an honest review*Synopsis: The daughter of a Las Vegas hustler, Raven Sabatier grew up trusting nothing and no one?she doesn't even trust herself to stay in one place for longer than a minute. When her quest to find out the secrets of her past leads her to the mountains of North Carolina, she?s set on a collision course with the one man she thought she'd never see again. In Appalachia consulting on an archeological dig, Anthropologist Dr. Drew Deveraux comes face to face with the indomitable beauty who broke into his apartment a year ago, tilting his carefully cultivated world on its axis.Engaged in a fight with their demons, both imagined and real, the last thing either of them expected to find was love. Together, they must unravel the mystery of Raven's past and her connection with an ancient race of witches, in order to save their future ? and all of the souls hanging in the balance. My opinion:This is the second book of this series. If you want to read more about the first book, there?s the link to Goodreads in the end of the post. The Vigilati series continues with Raven. She is the type of heroine I like to read about: a fierce of Nature. I could feel a connection with her, and I liked her from page one. Her character is well developed and I couldn't have enjoyed it more.As she tries to find the answers about her gift, she collides with Drew. I think that he is a weaker character than her, but yet I still enjoyed reading about the chemistry between the two of them. The plot is original and the writing is easy to read. The villains change in this second book, which, for me, is a positive thing because it makes the story more believable. I think the villain?s secret is kind of easy to find out, which makes the book a little less fun, but don't worry because you'll have mystery until the end.I absolutely love the cover of the book. It's simple but mysterious. This book has magic, mystery, romance. If you are a paranormal fan you should read this. My rating:About the author:J.K. Hogan has been telling stories for as long as she can remember, beginning with writing cast lists and storylines for her toys growing up. When she finally decided to put pen to paper, magic happened. She is greatly inspired by all kinds of music and often creates a ?soundtrack? for her stories as she writes them.J.K. resides in North Carolina, where she was born and raised. A true southern girl at heart, she lives on a farm with her husband and young son, a cat, and two champion agility dogs. If she isn?t on the agility field, J.K. can often be found chasing waterfalls in the mountains with her husband, or down in front at a blues concert. In addition to writing, she enjoys training and competing in dog sports, spending time with her large southern family, camping, boating and, of course, reading!J.K. Monday 20th of May 2013 09:11:00 AM - Book Tour: The PureLights of Ohm Totem by Omon Hart
*This information and a copy were provided by Enchanted Book Promotions for this tour and an honest review*Title: The PureLights of Ohm TotemAuthor: Omon HartGenre: FantasyOverview:Zoey has a dream, one that feels far more real than it should. A strange wolf with a beautiful, violet crystal embedded in his forehead visits her. "Please help us," the wolf implores with sad eyes. "Remember, Zoey, who you truly are." Zoey wakes up, dismissing it as a silly dream. However, she soon realizes that it was far more real than she could've ever imagined. Coda is Zoey's older brother. Like many boys his age, he has a craving for adventure and a loathing for his younger sister. He can't stand it that she constantly gets in his way, joining in on all his fun, and ruining it in the process. The worst, according to Coda, is that Zoey gets all the attention from their parents. A big drag in his mind. Then destiny arrives, one that Zoey and Coda must face together - if they want to survive.Together, they journey to a place deep in the Cornell Forest, beyond the Snow Tree, through a patch of blackberry bushes concealing a secret portal that leads them to an ancient world called Ohm Totem - to the place of the PureLights, the race beckoning for their help. There, Zoey and Coda discover something so unique, so magical, and so sacred within themselves, that even those who called for them could not have known how powerful these two children really are. Caught between an age old war and finding their way back home, Zoey and Coda go on an amazing adventure, taking them beyond the veils of everything they once knew, and into the terrifying grasp of the unknown. My opinion:I can't find the words to describe perfectly what I feel about this book. You need to read it and to feel it to understand. I don't want to ruin the magic of it, so here is my honest review in the best way I can express myself about it.A great fantasy book in which we follow Zoey and Coda, to whom the readers can easily relate to, no matter how old they are. It's a must-read for children, but not only; everyone should read this inspirational book.I couldn't stop reading, it's a wonderful book full of magic that touched my deeper emotions. This are the best books, the ones that can make me feel something, that touch my heart, my emotions. It not only touched my emotions, it touched my inner self with a wonderful spiritual experience. The book allowed me to escape from the routine and from the negative things of my daily life. It made me think about things differently, to face them with my heart. It was a wonderful experience, not only a great book but also a spiritual journey. Sometimes I felt like this book was a path for further meditation. The writing is amazing, and it kept me reading and reading. It made it feel I was part of the story, like the characters were alive and everything around them was real. If you are in touch with Nature you will love this book because of the importance it has on the story, the things you can learn with it. It couldn't be more perfect. That's one of the things I love the most about this book. And the descriptions are simply beautiful and what I pictured in my mind in every scene was magical. The two main characters are guided by their Spirit Guides while they struggle with their responses to conflict. They learn without realizing it how to struggle against fear with love, compassion and forgiveness. At the same time, the reader is guided in his/hers own path in life. At least, that's what I felt. It's a book I'll read again for sure. I recommend it to anyone, anywhere, no matter how old you are and what type of reading you prefer. It's a book of wisdom and growth. One of the best book I have ever read, and probably the best I read so far this year.I can't wait for the second book of the series. My rating:Author Bio:Omon Hart was born in Portland, Oregon and grew up on the outskirts of the city in a little town known as Gladstone, where he graduated high school and moved on to college. Friday 19th of April 2013 01:47:00 PM - A Happy Accident by Evan Tyler - My review
*A copy of this book was sent to me by the author for an honest opinion*Overview (via Goodreads):A Story Inspired by Steven Tyler: The first book in a three-part seriesIt happened by accident, a lottery of events? In 1988, a blind seven-year-old lay in a hospital room longing for her mother, unaware that eight years earlier a chance encounter occurred that would shape her life.American musician Bobby Carter moved to Manchester, England with one objective?to become a major player in the postpunk scene of the late Seventies. His quest for stardom steers him in the direction of Kindle Hyrum, whose feistiness is only exceeded by her raw beauty. Though Bobby?s steady pursuit trumps Kindle?s cheeky resistance?sweeping them into present bliss?past secrets, new temptations, and a series of hapless and happy accidents will determine their future...and the future of a blind child.Set to the lyrical soundtrack of the 60s and 70s, A Happy Accident is a story of love and choice that transcends the agesProduct details (via Goodreads):Papperback:284 pagesPublished December 3rd 2012ISBN: 0988446502 (ISBN13: 9780988446502)Edition language: EnglishOriginal title: A Happy AccidentKindle Edition:Published December 3rd 2012 by Amazon Digital ServicesASIN: B00AHER9I0Edition language: EnglishOriginal title: A Happy AccidentAbout the author:Evan Tyler is author by day, lead guitarist by night. Having written short stories since third grade in addition to playing violin and guitar, Evan always knew she would find a way to marry her two passions. Thus, her debut novel "A Happy Accident" is a perfect merger of her two loves--music and writing. Her website: http://eptyler.com/My opinion:A Happy Accident is a beautiful book, romantic and perfect for dreamers. A book about love, instincts, family, dreams. And also about choices and sacrifice. It's wonderfully written and the characters are well developed. The musical references along the story, with names we know so well, are perfect. Kindle and Bobby (a.k.a. Ricky Stallion) are the main characters. In the end I felt like I knew them, like I was reading about two real people. They meet in the end of December 1979 and their life will change with one of Bobby's crazy ideas. We see the seasons changing while we follow the main characters' lives, and at the same time we travel to the past and to the future from time to time. All of that makes the book even more interesting. The beginning of the book is strong, and only later you can relate the rest of the story to it. It kept me interested from page one. But it kind of confused me for a long time while reading, especially because it talks about a grandfather that I'm not sure I know who he is. But this is only a small detail in the whole story.Bobby is the lead singer of a punk band called The Dare, that travels from USA to Manchester searching for visibility. He is a dreamer and the type of shy and romantic guy that can rock the house we he is on stage.Kindle works at one bar where the band plays, and also in the hotel where the are hosted. She had a sad past that, but she became and independent woman who learned how to survive and live by herself.Their relationship made me laugh and also made me feel sad sometimes. It was wonderful to see them fall in love with each other while time passes by. I absolutely loved them from the beginning. I think I expected a different ending. Not better, if you know what I mean. This is the first book of the series, and the ending is the perfect opening of the second book. I can't say it disappointed me, I just thought it would be different, that's all.I highly recommend it if you like beautiful stories with a little bit of tragic in between the romantic paragraphs. My rating:

Overview (via Oceanbooks):When his mother died, Malcolm at six years old became one of the ?lost? children of that time, those forgotten or abandoned by their families. I absolutely love the descriptions, I think it's one of the best things of this book. What you read it's so vivid I could picture it perfectly in my mind, and I could almost hear the sounds, feels the smells... well, everything. When I was reading felt like I was almost watching a movie, with every scene taking place in front of my eyes. The writing is really good and kept me interested in the book. It's another really good thing about this book. The words were chosen wisely and every paragraph is just perfect. The plot is original and fun, and the characters are well developed. If you want to read a good book with an interesting plot that takes place in a Medieval Era, this is a really good option. We can read about kings and queens, princes and princesses, peasants, barbarians, and some more. It starts with Harrow, a young scholar, who receives a message to tell the Queen. From that point the adventure begins. Strange and intriguing things happen and I really couldn't put the book down. This is book full of the magic of the medieval times that will make you want more.If you like this type of books, you must read it!My rating:Guest postMy Writing Process by R.J. HoreI have what I suspect is an unusual writing process. A lot of writers go into great detail before they start a project. They will plan out every detail of the plot in advance. They set out all they can think of regarding the characters, including a lengthy backstory with information they may never use. By the time they are ready to start writing, they have everything laid out and will seldom vary from that detailed outline.Looking at what I have published so far, I have a couple of methods I use for my medieval-style fantasies. For ?The Queen?s Pawn,? and my earlier ?The Dark Lady,? I began with a setting and plot idea, developing the story as I went along. I usually know the ending, but the middle may be a great wasteland. For ?The Queen?s Pawn? I imagined the setting of a fallen city in flames, an older student caught up in events over which he has no control or knowledge. He gets reluctantly swept away on an adventure, and the personalities of the characters he becomes involved with, to a large extent drive the story. ?The Dark Lady? was a similar situation, with the setting of an ancient castle and an orphaned princess surrounded by enemies. Once I have the setting and main characters, the rest follows. At the most, once I?m involved, I might set down a line or two to remind me of an idea I can use in an up-coming chapter.I have also written a fantasy detective series of novellas. ?Housetrap? is the first in ?The Housetrap Chronicles.? In this example I create the title of the tale, usually by messing up a famous mystery or thriller title, and once I have settled on that, develop the plot to fit the revised title. I know it sounds backwards, but it works quite well for me. Examples scheduled for publication this year include: ?Dial M for Mudder,? ?House on Hollow Hill,? and ?Hounds of Basalt Ville.? With titles like these the ideas flow freely and I can rush madly off in all directions. There is one area where I?m a stickler though. I may not start out with a detailed outline or draft, but I keep serious notes as I create. I write down descriptions of the characters as they develop: things like the correct spelling of names, physical attributes and favorite foods, drinks and sayings. There is nothing worse than starting off with a heroine who is a blue-eyed blonde, only to discover at the end of the manuscript you have changed her eyes to brown and misspelled her last name several times. The same rule applies to locations. It is much simpler to record details as you go than have to check back later through the manuscript. This is especially important if you find yourself working on a sequel or two!The most important thing about the writing process is?find a method what works best for you and develop it!R.J.Horewww.ronaldhore.comwww.facebook.com/RonaldJHore

In the beginning I had some doubts about this one, but I ended up loving it.The book tells us about Evelyn and her brother Jase, who try to find a way to keep themselves away from danger. Along the way they meet other people; some of them can be trusted enough to join them... some can become really close friends. But not everything is perfect and not everyone can be trusted. This book has lots of action and some dark humor, which made it a pleasant reading. Almost from the first chapter the characters are always involved in something: fighting, planing what to do next, figuring out new things about what's happening to them and the world. That made the book not boring at all. It's easy to read, although it has some grammar/writing flaws. The plot is original and full of morbid scenes. I have to read to know what's going to happen. At least for me it wasn't predictable at all. The descriptions are so well made that I could perfectly picture the scenes in my mind, almost like I was watching a movie, even when things happen really fast.Ev is the perfect main character. How could I not love her? She rocks! She has (almost) everything under control all the time. She is a strong character, the type of character I don't forget easily.I know there's a sequel for this book and I can't wait to read it. I recommend it if you like zombies and supernatural, and if you want to read a book full of action scenes. My rating:Guest post:The hardest thing about character development by Candis VargoCharacters make books. Why read a book if you don?t like the characters? I?m not saying you have to like them all, but for the most part the main character is one you?re able to identify with and you like. When you?re creating a character, there?s so much more to it than just a name and a face.Creating what the character looks like is the easiest part for me. I can come up with their looks easier than I can come up with their names. Some people will make a chart and write out everything about their characters from their looks, to their fears. That?s where I?m different.I like to see the character progress. I like to get to know them as I?m writing and learn what they?d to in a certain situation. As my writing grows, so does my character. They go from a name, a face and an attitude to a person with likes, dislikes, and fears. The hardest part for me is making sure I?m keeping it all real. When writing a scene I try to think of everything about that characters personality and do my best to write the next part as though that person was my best friend and I knew exactly what they would do. Even with the characters voice, I try to keep it as realistic to life and that character as I can. I?ll find myself deleting over and over a phrase I want a certain character to say until I get it just right for their personality and in the tone they would use. I want my characters to make the reader feel like they either do see a part of themselves in that character, or know someone who they can see in that character. They need to be just like you. They need hopes, dreams, fears and even flaws. Maybe I?m a little over zealous with trying to keep my characters all as realistic and believable as I can, but that?s what is the hardest part for me. Everyone is different and everyone has their own ways of coming up with their characters. I can guarantee you my way wouldn?t work for many people. But watching my character grow throughout the story and getting to know them with each page makes me able to build my characters more realistic than if I were to just write down any random flaw or favorite for that character. But that?s just me. I?ve also never been one to stick right on with my original plot. Become a fan of Coffee Break on Facebook

Thursday 11th of April 2013 12:52:00 PM - Dreamcatcher by Iyana Jenna - My review
*A copy of this short story was sent to me by the author for an honest review*Overview (given by the author and as seen on Goodreads):When kids at his school begin to fall asleep and never wake up, Jordan Sullivan remembers the story his parents told him when he was a kid, a story involving his great-great-grandfather, a certain warlock, and a dreamcatcher. When his best friend Jamie falls victim to the nightmare, Jordan?s only hope is to use his dreamcatcher - and prepare to face the consequences.Product details:ebook, 16 pagesPublished April 3rd 2013 by Prizm BooksASIN: B00C6FZHGYEdition language: EnglishOriginal tittle: DreamcatcherGenre: Prizm Pinch, Sci-fi/Fantasy, Paranormal/Horror, Historical, DramaAge Rating: Young AdultBuy Link: Click hereMy opinion:This was the first short story I read in ages. I decided to read it today since I had a free morning, and I couldn't be more happy with the time I spent reading it.It got me interested from page one. Initially you read about a very family-like scene about Zach and his family, and you don't know what to expect until you read it further. I was very intrigued and it was a good beginning for the book.Once we meet Jordan, the story starts to unravel itself. Some strange bad things start happening with no apparent reason. Kids start no showing up at school and their families say they won't wake up from their sleep. One day, Jamie, his best friend doesn't show up at school and Jordan knows he needs to do something, even if it looks crazy and people look skeptically at him and his plan. He needs to try it.I don't want to spoil the reading for you by telling you more about the story. This is a simple short fantasy story, full of magic and mystery. I think it's worth reading it. It's nicely written, in a way I wanted to know what was going to happen next. The ideas are original and the concept is really good. The characters are likable and the plot was mostly unpredictable. I recommend it if you like young-adult fiction. My rating:
Tuesday 9th of April 2013 08:25:00 AM - The Nightmare Affair by Mindee Arnett - My review
Overview (via Goodreads):Sixteen-year-old Dusty Everhart breaks into houses late at night, but not because she?s a criminal. No, she?s a Nightmare.Literally.Being the only Nightmare at Arkwell Academy, a boarding school for magicking and living in the shadow of her mother?s infamy, is hard enough. But when Dusty sneaks into Eli Booker?s house, things get a whole lot more complicated. He?s hot, which means sitting on his chest and invading his dreams couldn't get much more embarrassing. But it does. Eli is dreaming of a murder. Then Eli?s dream comes true. Now Dusty has to follow the clues?both within Eli?s dreams and out of them?to stop the killer before more people turn up dead. And before the killer learns what she?s up to and marks her as the next target.Product details (via Goodreads):Papperback:Hardcover, 367 pagesPublished March 5th 2013 by Tor TeenISBN 0765333333 (ISBN13: 9780765333339)Edition language: EnglishOriginal title: The Nightmare AffairSeries: The Arkwell Academy #1Kindle edition:Kindle Edition, 368 pagesPublished March 5th 2013 by Tor TeenASIN B00AEC8PA6Edition language EnglishOriginal title The Nightmare AffairSeries: The Arkwell Academy #1My opinion:This was a fun reading. Some of the ideas about the paranormal world are kind of new. The author decided to create a school with fairies, sirens, psychics and wizards, which felt familiar but at the same time you don't find in every book you read. But you can also find some already-seen ideas that make the book lose part of it's originality. In general I think this series has great potential, because the world created in this first book is mostly new and creative.Dusty (aka Destiny) is a Nightmare, one of the several "species" in the magic world. Nightmares feed on fictus, the substance of dreams. In the Arkwell Academy you can find all sorts of magical species. The book starts with Dusty feeding on Eli's dream. In this dream they witness a murder, and for Dusty's surprise the dream comes true.Dusty will have to work with Eli searching for clues to find the murderer, but it won't be easy in the beginning.I think Dusty is a fun character, always with hilarious comments about almost everything, even herself. The characters are likable, however I think they could have been better developed. In the end I didn't feel like I knew something more than the basic about any of them, not even Dusty.About the plot, I think it's weak. It starts all right and to be the beginning of the book was interesting. But it starts to lose it's magic, even when it show be thrilling because they are looking for a murderer. I think I felt a little disappointed while reading the book. The plot starts being a little predicting, and I felt like there was something missing all the time. Since I first heard about this book that I really wanted to read it, and now I wish the book could be more than what it really is. There were moments when I had to force myself to keep reading and that's not a good sign. The writing was simple and easy to read, but the author didn't manage to write in a way that made me want to keep reading the book. Sometimes even when the plot is weak, the writer can surpass that by the way he or she writes, which makes the book more interesting. It didn't happen with this book. Not that I didn't enjoyed the writing. The author made good descriptions and I liked the way she makes Dusty the narrator of the story, with the funny internal monologues and personal thoughts. But, like I said, the characters are pour and the plot was predictable most of the time.I recommend it if your want something light to read. It was entertaining, some of the chapters were quit nice, but unfortunately it didn't make me feel excited and jump out of my seat wanting to know more.My rating:

Saturday 6th of April 2013 10:16:00 AM - Neveah (A Broken Forever) by Angie Meriam - My review
Overview (via Goodreads):Shep was Lilly's soul mate. He shared her birthday, her love of nature, and he held her heart. On their eighteenth birthday Shep proposes and Lilly tearfully accepts. What should have been a joyous day quickly becomes a nightmare when Lilly's mother vanishes leaving only a note. The search for Lilly's mother leads them to Neveah, a magnificent parallel world, unknown to the Ordinaries of earth. Neveah is on the verge of war, and Lilly's mother is at the heart of the conflict. Lilly and Shep travel the lands of Neveah, collecting followers, while evading the evil that tore her family apart. Deep secrets are exposed, hard truths are faced, and faith is tested as Lilly and Shep race to find her mother and stop a madman. Neveah A Broken Forever is a tragic love story set in a picturesque land that is full of creatures both beautiful and terrifying. A sensual fantasy written for adults that will pull you in and leave you wanting more.Product details (via Goodreads):Published by CreateSpace (first published December 22nd 2010)ASIN: B004HB1WIMEdition language: EnglishOriginal title: Neveah (A Broken Forever)Kindle edition on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004HB1WIMMy opinion:This is a perfect book of fantasy and adult romance. When I first started reading this book I couldn't imagine how much I would love it and how much magic it would bring. It's easy to read, and yet so well written, so magical. I'll try not to get too excited and I'll write things carefully... I don't want to spoil it, but if I don't stop for a moment to think about it that's what will happen. In the beginning it was a little bit of a slow reading, but not in a bad way. I guess I was only giving myself time to get to know the main characters better. But after Lilly find the note from her mother I read it fast not only because I'm on vacations and I have more free time, but also because it really is a good book that made me want to know more. You can read beautiful descriptions that made everything real; when I imagined it, I almost could feel those were places where I traveled to before. Places so beautiful I wish I could be there! It was impossible not to feel some familiarity.Lilly was raised by her mother and we can read about their beautiful relationship right in the beginning of the book. They live on a trailer and for neighbors they have Shep and his family. Shep is Lilly's best-friend-almost-like-brother since they were little kids, but something really special is going to happen between them on this story.Everything in the book is so magic. I love the way Lilly is in touch with nature, and there's a moment when she refers to the place she lives and the people she knows as a "little paradise" - I agree with her and understand the meaning it has to her.But something changes their lives, not only Lilly's and her mom's, but also Shep's and his family's. What happens after that is happy and sad at the same time. Lilly's mom writes her a note that leads her to Neveah, a parallel world unknown by the Ordinaries. In a climate of war, revenge and fear you can read, at the same time, about beautiful creatures, amazing abilities, beautiful love. Some scenes make you smile, other scenes are infuriating, other scenes are sad. This book has the light and the darkness.Lilly is there to find secrets that have been kept from her all of this time; secrets about her family, her origins. The adventure begins and she is not alone. She will find people and creatures that are willing to help her along her way.And when you think all of the secrets have been told, you couldn't be more wrong. It's surprising up until the very ending.Ah, the ending... what can I say?! I wasn't expecting that. It's that kind of perfect (not necessarily happy or sad) ending that opens a door for a second book. The type of ending that makes the reader hungry for more.My rating:About the author:Angie Meriam was born and raised in the small town of Klamath Falls, Oregon. After the birth of her two sons, she and her husband moved the family to the Portland area. Saturday 6th of April 2013 06:34:00 AM - Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake - my review
Overview (via Goodreads):It's been months since the ghost of Anna Korlov opened a door to Hell in her basement and disappeared into it, but ghost-hunter Cas Lowood can't move on. His friends remind him that Anna sacrificed herself so that Cas could live?not walk around half dead. He knows they're right, but in Cas's eyes, no living girl he meets can compare to the dead girl he fell in love with. Now he's seeing Anna everywhere: sometimes when he's asleep and sometimes in waking nightmares. But something is very wrong...these aren't just daydreams. Anna seems tortured, torn apart in new and ever more gruesome ways every time she appears.Cas doesn't know what happened to Anna when she disappeared into Hell, but he knows she doesn't deserve whatever is happening to her now. Anna saved Cas more than once, and it's time for him to return the favor.Product details (via Goodreads):Hardcover, 332 pagesPublished August 7th 2012 by Tor Teen (first published 2012)ISBN: 0765328666 (ISBN13: 9780765328663)Edition language: EnglishOriginal title: Girl of NightmaresURL: http://us.macmillan.com/girlofnightmares/KendareBlakeSeries: Anna #2My opinion:On one hand I hoped that this book had more about Anna than it has, but one the other hand I imagined she wouldn't appear as much as in the first book.I think it's a great sequel for the story, with Cas fighting for what he believes.I was glad the same trio from school was still together. It made me feel that familiarity that I got used to with the first book.Blake, like before, amazed me with her writing. She can turn everything so simply. It's like we are reading real dialogs from real people. She doesn't try to make things sound better, she is absolutely brilliant because she is so spontaneous on her writing. And I love the dark humor on her books. The descriptions of what surrounds the characters are amazing. I could picture it in my mind so clearly. This book didn't make me keep reading and reading until the end like the first one did, not with the same desire of knowing what was going to happen to Cas, Anna or the friends, but the first one was a new thing, and the story was a bit different. It doesn't mean I didn't enjoyed it as much, because I did.But the closest to the ending, the more excited I would get, and I read the last chapters with the same will I read the first book. It's impossible not to like Cas and his two biggest friends, Thomas and Carmel. In fact, I think I liked Carmel more in this new book. And of course it's impossible not to like Anna, feel a little empathy for her story and what she's been through since the first book. And the ending is superb, i enjoyed every single sentence. I have no words to describe it, I just remember having a smile on my face while I was reading. My rating:The first book of the series:Anna Dressed in BloodClick here to read my reviewClick here for Goodreads infoBecome a fan of Coffee Break on Facebook

Overview (via Goodreads):ROOTS and SPRUNG are only $0.99 each until April 7th!Seventeen-year-old Baltimore Land just wants to be normal, but magic has other plans. I don?t consider myself a witch, that's my parents' thing. I've never really believed in magic either. Sure, I tried it a few times. Fell for the whole ?magic happens? thing. But it didn?t happen to me. No amount of rhyming stopped my parents from moving me halfway across the country. Not one spell stopped me from being labeled the town freak. And worst of all, no matter how many times I begged the Universe to bring my twin back, I was ignored. Until now. He?s back all right. And in a magical bind of his own. Not the magic-won?t-work-for-me kind either. In fact, it?s working a little too well. Too dark. Too deep.It turns out our entire family?s magical roots run just as deep and my brother didn?t end up where he is by accident. So I?m going to help him. But magic isn?t really on my side. Nope. Once I finally get the craft under control, I?m expected to abandon the one person in the world who?s closest to me, just to save myself.Product details (via Goodreads):Kindle Edition, Second Edition, 241 pagesPublished March 15th 2013 by Diverse Pages (first published July 18th 2012)ASIN: B008MZ59Q0Edition language: EnglishOriginal title: ElementalSeries: The Witchbound Series #1

Dysfunctional like her parents' marriage; her doll-crazy twelve-year-old sister, Kasey; and even her own anti-social, anti-cheerleader attitude. When a family fight results in some tearful sisterly bonding, Alexis realizes that her life is creeping from dysfunction into danger. Kasey is acting stranger than ever: her blue eyes go green sometimes; she uses old-fashioned language; and she even loses track of chunks of time, claiming to know nothing about her strange behavior. Their old house is changing, too. Doors open and close by themselves; water boils on the unlit stove; and an unplugged air conditioner turns the house cold enough to see their breath in.Alexis wants to think that it's all in her head, but soon, what she liked to think of as silly parlor tricks are becoming life-threatening--to her, her family, and to her budding relationship with the class president. Monday 1st of April 2013 01:19:00 PM - The Book Thief by Markus Zusak - my review
Overview (via Goodreads):HERE IS A SMALL FACT - YOU ARE GOING TO DIE. 1939. Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier. Liesel, a nine-year-old girl, is living with a foster family on Himmel Street. Her parents have been taken away to a concentration camp. Liesel steals books. This is her story and the story of the inhabitants of her street when the bombs begin to fall. SOME IMPORTANT INFORMATION - THIS NOVEL IS NARRATED BY DEATH. It's a small story, about: a girl, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. ANOTHER THING YOU SHOULD KNOW - DEATH WILL VISIT THE BOOK THIEF THREE TIMESProduct details:Pages: 554Published September 8th 2007 by Black Swan(first published March 14th 2006)ISBN 0552773891 (ISBN13: 9780552773898)Edition language EnglishMy opinion:Since I've first heard about this book that I had doubts about what I would think about it. I read some books about the Nazi Germany and I liked most of them, but the stories start to be pretty similar. Nevertheless, I always felt curious about this story. This story is narrated by death. It's the story of a German girl named Liesel who grows up during World War II. We read about her life with her new foster parents. Papa teaches her to read and calms her down when she has nightmares. Mama does the laundry for rich people in town, and she swears a lot but she has a big heart. The girl becomes friends with Rudy, her neighbor, a boy with "hair of color of lemons". She goes to school with him and they have some adventures together. He also helps her the best he can. Later in the book she also makes a new friend: a Jew named Max, one of my favorite characters. He gives Liesel the perfect gift with the few things he has. There are several interesting characters in the story, but I'll not write about them all because I don't want to ruin it for you. Every character is really well built and they could be real.Death, who is trying to understand the human race, narrates the story with insightful observations and dry humor, which made me smile. Death is a strong character, imaginary but so real at the same time because of what this characters feels: the emotions, the sensations, the thoughts.Zusak is a brilliant writer. He makes the reader think about compassion, family, war and atrocities. He wrote the perfect words for every sentence, for every chapter, for every scene, and the reader has to let the imagination go wild. It's a book with a slow development. It was a slow reading, but not painful. It was slow because it tells the reader the details, but it's not boring. The descriptions are amazing, you can almost feel it as real.Liesel is adorable. She is a strong little girl who lives in one of the most tragic moments of our history. Although she may seem fragile, she has already been through some painful moments, and she'll have to deal with more during the story we read. She can always find a way of fighting. After reading so many book about the Holocaust and the Nazis, sometimes it's hard for me to read about those times again. Weather the story is original or not, it always has a little but of the same old details. One of the reasons I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because sometimes I had the feeling I was reading a collection of short stories and not a whole novel. Another reason is I didn't feel attached to this book like I felt for others, which I wanted to read without stopping. The book is brilliant, the story, the way it's written... I just felt something was missing. My rating:
